Marie Colvin (1956 – February 22, 2012) was an American-born war reporter for the British newspaper The Sunday Times. One of Britain's most honored combat journalists, she was killed along with her French photographer in Syria when the building where she and a number of foreign journalists were covering the Homs battle was bombed by Syrian government forces.

Having covered the Middle East for more than 20 years, as well as reporting from East Timor, Chechnya, Kosovo and Sri Lanka, Colvin was no stranger to battleground conflicts, having lost her left eye after being hit by government fire in Sri Lanka in 2001. Instead of having a prosthetic eye, Colvin chose to wear a black eye patch as a badge of honor for conflict journalism which makes her one of the most distinctive journalists in many combat zones.

Born in Oyster Bay, New York, Colvin graduated from Yale University, and became renowned in Britain largely through her gripping coverage of the 1990s Balkans War, and the war in Chechnya. She was known for her dedication to battlefield reporting, believing to the end that the perils were simply a journalist's duty.
