human zoo

The public exhibits of humans usually in their natural or primitive state. During the 19th century, human zoos or ethnographic expositions were introduced to explain the cultural differences between people from Western civilization and those from Africa and other parts of the world. These ethnographic zoos have since been criticized for highly degrading racism and human right volitions.

News stories have surfaced recently that tourists are taken out on India's “safari” to seek out members of the Jarawa tribe and make them dance (with some women naked) for food. The Jarawa tribe, who were among the first people to migrate from Africa to Asia, lives a nomadic existence in the lush, tropical forests of the Andamans in the Indian Ocean.
