Cropping intensity index (CII)
A time-weighted land-use index that evaluates the fraction of the total hectare-months available to the farmer that are used for crop production. In simpler terms, the CII measures how many crops are grown a year on a given piece of land. A CII of 0.5 (Or 50%) means that the land is cultivated every second year; CII of 3 (or 300%) indicates that three crops are gown in a row during every calender year. Actual values can often be improved, climatic conditions and water availability permitting. CII applies to all crops. Rainfed wheat can be followed by irrigated or lowland rice.
