Figure skating

a sport and activity in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating and four skating. In senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.

lateral twist jump

This is a jump that is used in pairs skating. The woman skater is tossed and then spins in the air, she is of course parallel to the ice.

layback spin

This is a spin that is done on one foot. The upper body is bent backward so the head and shoulders and part of the back are parallel to the ice.

lift

When the male skater lifts the female skater, his partner, into the air and her head and shoulders are above his head and shoulders.

This refers to a skater's position on the ice and whether or not they have good form on the ice.

lobe

This is a part of a circular movement or maneuver on the ice.

long free program

This is the free skating portion and is the major part of the singles competition free skating program.

loop jump

Sports; Figure skating

This is an edge jump and the skater jumps off the back outside edge of a skate and then lands on that same back outside edge.
