Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Contributors in Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding

impact resistance

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The resistance of plastic articles to fracture under stresses applied at high speeds.

back pressure

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The resistance of the molten plastic material to forward flow. In molding, back pressure increases the temperature of the melt, and contributes to better mixing of colors and homogeneity of the ...

barrel

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The section of a molding machine that contains the feed screw, also the section where resin heating and mixing occurs.

fracture

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The separation of a body, usually characterized as either brittle or ductile.

shear stress

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

the shearing force divided by the area. It is always a maximum at the outside of the flow channel. As it is force-related, it depends on the viscosity of the material, which in turn depends on the ...

molecule

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The smallest unit quantity of matter which can exist by itself and retain all of the properties of the original substance.

ash content

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The solid residue remaining after a substance has been incinerated or heated to a temperature sufficient to drive off all combustible or volatile substances.
