Home Run Derby

A home run derby is a competition to see who can hit the most home runs. A home run derby can have many different formats depending on the organization running it.

The most famous home run derby takes place during the Major League Baseball's All-Star break. Traditionally the derby occurs the day before the All-Star Game, and generally draws more attention than the actual game. The MLB Home Run Derby consists of five players from the American League and five players from the National League. Players try to hit as many home runs as they can before they reach 10 outs. Any ball hit that is not a home run is an out. Swings and misses are also outs. The four players with the most home runs in round one advance to round two. The home runs they hit in round one carry over to round two, and the 2 players with the most home runs after round two advance to the finals. In the final round the home run totals start over, and the player who hits the most home runs in the final round wins the home run derby.

The 2013 MLB Home Run Derby Champion is Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland A's.
