South Dakota

South Dakota, known as "The Coyote State," or "Mount Rushmore State," "The Sunshine State," "The Artesian State," "The Blizzard State" is a state located in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux American Indian tribes. Pierre is the state capital, but other major cities include Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aderdeen, Watertown, Brookings, Mitchell,Yankton, Huron, and Vermillion. South Dakota is bordered to the north by North Dakota; to the south by Nebraska; to the east by Iowa and Minnesota; and to the west by Wyoming and Montana. It entered the Union on Nov. 2, 1889 and is the 40th state of the U.S.
