Una estrella de tipo espectral A en el que el espectro de las líneas de Balmer de hidrógeno alcanzan su mayor magnitud. Las líneas de helio no son observables. Algunas líneas metálicas están presentes, en las estrellas viejas tipo A aparecen líneas H y K de calcio ionizado. Las estrellas A tienen un índice de color de cero.
