Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

chloroplast DNA (cpDNA)

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The DNA of plant plastids, including chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts capture light energy, store it in the energy storage ...

flanking region

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The DNA sequences extending either side of a specific sequence.

complementary DNA (cDNA)

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The double-stranded DNA complement of an mRNA sequence; synthesized in vitro from a mature RNA template using reverse transcriptase (to create a single strand of DNA from the RNA template) and DNA ...

velogenetics

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The combined use of marker-assisted selection (q.v.) and embryo technologies such as OPU (q.v.), IVM (q.v.) and IVF (q.v.), in order to increase the rate of genetic improvement in animal populations.

comparative gene mapping

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The comparison of map locations of genes between species. The results of these comparisons indicate substantial conservation of blocks of genes and even large segments of chromosomes between species. ...

replisome

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The complete replication apparatus present at a replication fork that carries out the semi-conservative replication of DNA.

life cycle

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The complete sequence of events undergone by organisms of a particular species, from the fusion of gametes in one generation to the same stage in the following generation.
