Plastic injection molding
Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Plastic injection molding
frictional heating
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
heat generated by the friction of the chains of molecules slipping past each other or over a surface.
polymer
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
High-molecular-weight organic compound, natural or synthetic, whose structure can be represented by a repeated small unit, the mer: e.g. polyethylene, rubber, cellulose. If two or more monomers are ...
nozzle
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
hollow metal hose screwed into the extrusion end of the heating cylinder of an injection machine designed to form a seal under pressure between the cylinder and the mold.
cold flow lines
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Imperfections within the part wall due to thickening or solidification of resin prior to full cavity fill.
corona treatment
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
Impingement of AC power on a component to bombard with free radicals thus improving the ability to bond to a surface.
ultimate elongation
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
In a tensile test the elongation at rupture.
runner
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
In an injection mold, the feed channel, usually of circular cross section, which connects the sprue with the cavity gate. The term is also used for the plastic piece formed in this channel.
