Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Contributors in Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding

amorphous

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Devoid of crystallinity or stratification. Most plastics are amorphous at processing temperatures. Material assumes more random molecular structure when cooling.

warpage

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Distortion caused by nonuniform internal stresses.

material safety data sheets

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Documentation regarding the toxicity or hazards associated with contact with some substances. The manufacturer of the plastic prepares these data sheets.

creep

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

Due to its viscoelastic nature, a plastic subjected to a load for a period of time tends to deform more than it would from the same load released immediately after application, and the degree of this ...

naturally balanced runner system

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

each succession of runner is identical to the runners in the same succession in all other flows in the mold.

time scan

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

effects of mold and melt temperature and injection time changes on pressure, stress and temperature at the end of flow.

subgate

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

entrance to the part from the runner located below the parting line. On ejection the part breaks away from the subgate.
