Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

dry cell

Energy; Solar power

A cell (battery) with a captive electrolyte. A primary battery that cannot be recharged.

megawatt-hour

Energy; Solar power

1,000 kilowatt-hours or 1 million watt-hours.

microgroove

Energy; Solar power

A small groove scribed into the surface of a solar cell, which is filled with metal for contacts.

minority carrier

Energy; Solar power

A current carrier, either an electron or a hole, that is in the minority in a specific layer of a semiconductor material; the diffusion of minority carriers under the action of the cell junction ...

minority carrier lifetime

Energy; Solar power

The average time a minority carrier exists before recombination.

modified sine wave

Energy; Solar power

A waveform that has at least three states (i.e., positive, off, and negative). Has less harmonic content than a square wave.

modularity

Energy; Solar power

The use of multiple inverters connected in parallel to service different loads.
