Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The usually fatal human disease in which the immune system is destroyed by a retrovirus (Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV). The virus infects and destroys helper T-cells, which are essential for ...

polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

A procedure that amplifies a particular DNA sequence. It involves multiple cycles of denaturation , annealing to oligonucleotide primers, and extension (polynucleotide synthesis), using a ...

genotype

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

1. The genetic constitution (gene makeup) of an organism. 2. The pair of alleles at a particular locus, e.g., Aa or aa . 3. The sum total of all pairs of alleles at all loci that contribute to the ...

collenchyma

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

A tissue of living cells, the walls being unevenly thickened with cellulose and hemicellulose, but never lignified; it functions in mechanical support in young, short-lived or non-woody organs and is ...

fission

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Asexual reproduction involving the division of a single-celled individual into two new single-celled individuals of equal size.

xerophyte

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

A plant very resistant to drought or that lives in very dry places.

style

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Slender column of tissue that arises from the top of the ovary and through which the pollen tube grows.
