phenolic molded resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A synthetic thermosetting resins such as bakelite, obtained by the reaction of phenols with simple aldehydes and used to make molded products, as in a resistor shell.

pull-up resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor used to pull-up or tie an unused IC input-pin to a voltage or an open-collector IC output-pin to a voltage. Tri-state outputs may also need to be pulled-up.

shunt resistor

Electronic components; Resistors

A resistor placed across the terminals of another device. Example: a shunt resistor placed across the terminals of a potentiometer to change the devices characteristics.

tolerance

Electronic components; Resistors

A permissible deviation from a specified value. A maximum electrical or mechanical variation of specifications that can be tolerated without impairing the operation of a device.

resistor tolerance

Electronic components; Resistors

The permissible deviation of the manufactured resistance value (expressed in percent) from the specified nominal resistance value at standard (or stated) environmental conditions.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (ROHS)

Electronic components; Resistors

The regulatory directive for the elimination of lead (Pb) from the component. In strict terms RoHS compliant devices eliminate a number of toxic substances from their ...

surface mount device

Electronic components; Resistors

(SMD) A device that is mounted directly to pads on a printed wiring board (PWB). Surface mount devices do not have leads that penetrate the PWB. SMD components are lead-less ...
