They're nothing new, but in recent years they have taken a more central role in our online radio.  I mean internet radio, by which I mean stuff like iTunes podcasts or things found on Pandora or Spotify. There's been a lot of disruption of the traditional music landscape over the last decade or two, and much of it has come because of the emergence of online radio in general, and podcasts in particular. In between the old giants that were previously holding on to the world (music labels) and their new giant rival (the internet), there's a whole new sort of upstart content creator that is changing things once again.
