A round wooden peg used to fasten pieces of wood together without the use of metal fasteners. Holes are drilled into each of the pieces to be joined, and a short dowel is pressed into the holes to hold the pieces together.

A rounded end on a turbine blade that mates with a rounded hole in the periphery of the turbine disk, or wheel. Bulb-root blades are loose when the wheel is cold to allow for different rates of expansion between the blades and the wheel, while holding the blade against the centrifugal loads. Other types of blade roots are the dovetail and the fir-tree.

A rubbery sealant used to line the inside of built-up metal fuel tanks. The sloshing compound is poured into the tank until the tank is about half full. The filler cap is installed and the tank rotated until the compound covers all of the internal surface. Then the compound is drained from the tank. The compound that sticks to the walls of the tank cures to form a tight seal over all of the seams in the tank.

A rubbing seal in a gas turbine engine between a rotating shaft and a fixed housing. The seal, made of carbon, rides on a highly polished steel surface, and the close fit between the carbon and the steel keeps oil from flowing into the gas path of the engine.
