Lorenzo Alejandro Mendoza Fleury

Lorenzo born in Caracas, in 1897, in 1919 earned a law degree in 1924 and a Ph.D. in Political Science at the Central University of Venezuela. He combined the practice of law with the direction of Mendoza & Company, family candle and soap factory. Took the step to the establishment in 1941 of Cervecería Polar C.A Companies polar firme column and its consolidation as an industry. He organized not only the infrastructure but the efficient production companies for marketing of beer and malt throughout the national territory. He promoted the growth of the business by reinvesting profits in the country, constantly generating new jobs. One of the most important legacies left him and his son Juan Lorenzo was the creation of precooked corn flour, in order to facilitate the preparation of the "Arepa", preventing their disappearance in the Venezuelan habits.

He delegated control of the company in his son Juan Lorenzo, who died prematurely in 1962. Then resumed command for seven years, until his passing away in 1969.

In recognition of his concern for social, cultural and scientific affairs originated in 1982, the prestigious Polar Prize Foundation Companies "Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury" as encouragement to researchers in the basic sciences in Venezuela, leaving their footprints in both the history of the organization and in the development of the country.
