Titan is the secret project at Apple dedicated to the design and development of Apple's self-driving electric car. In an effort to go beyond simply dominating the vehicle dashboard with maps and multimedia, Apple intends to create a Tesla-challenging car that will fundamentally shake up the traditional auto industry. To accomplish its goals, Apple recruited top automotive engineers and R&D specialists from rival automakers soon after Apple CEO Tim Cook gave the green-light to the Titan project in early 2014. The Titan project team of 1,000 members are led by Steve Zadesky who is a former Ford Motor engineer. Prior to the Titnan project, Zadesky also worked on mechanical design for numerous projects including iPod and iPhone - given free reign to borrow staff from elsewhere within Apple and outside firms.

The self-driving electric car shares many common technologies with the iPhone and iPad such as battery, location based communications, and sophisticated electronics, all of which are eloquently mastered by Apple.
