robotic rickshaw

Invented by Farmer Wu Yulu in a village outside of Beijing, this robotic rickshaw is an environment friendly vehicle pulled by a self-made walking robot which is powered by a onboard battery and controlled by a car steering wheel like device. The life-size robotic model is able to walk and talk, and pulls his inventer around the village announcing to passers-by: "I'm a rickshaw-pulling robot. Wu Yulu is my Dad, I take him out about town."

In his earlier efforts making robots, Wu Yulu burned down his house, sprayed himself with battery acid, and drove his wife to contemplate divorce. However, his dedication to robots finally won him fame and cash so he could pursue his robotic passion as a lifelong project. In addition to the robotic rickshaw , his other robotic inventions include creations, with bodies made of plastic barrels or cloaked in cloth skirts, can pour tea, offer smokers a light for their cigarette, climb walls and shuffle across the ceiling on magnetic feet.
