Bay to Breakers

An annual footrace held in San Francisco, California on the third Sunday of May. The race starts from the Embarcadero and runs west through the city to the finish line at the Great Highway. The complete course is 7.46 mi (12.01 km) long. The race was established in 1912 and used as a way to lift the city's spirits after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

The event is well known for many participants wearing costumes or varying degrees of public nudity. There are a large number of "bandits", unregistered runners, who join the race. There is also the Centipede competition where a team of 13 runners is connected as a unit (centipede) as they run the race course.
