A professional who heats steel rods in furnace preparatory to forging boat or track spikes. Respnsibilities include:

Shoves rods into furnace and spaces them evenly with pry bar to ensure uniform heating.

Pushes heated rods from furnace, using cold rod, on signal from spike-machine feeder.

May adjust furnace temperature control, clean, and lubricate equipment as specified.
