biološka raznolikost
Pojam biološka raznolikost označava raznolikost života na Zemlji ili u nekom određenom ekosustavu u pogledu broja različitih bioloških vrsti koje u njemu žive. Tropske kišne šume, primjerice, nastanjuje veliki broj različitih vrsta, što znači da ondje vlada velika biološka raznolikost, dok u polarnim područjima to nije slučaj. Znanstvenici su zabrinuti da iskrčivanje šuma npr. zbog sadnje kultura za proizvodnju biogoriva i životinjsku i ljudsku prehranu nepovoljno utječe na bioraznolikost. Vidi također monokultura.
