This is used to describe games, mostly shooters, that you only control the character weapon of choice while the movement is automatic, just like on a rollercoaster thats the reason for 'Rail'.
first person shooter (FPS)

As the name suggests it is a shooter game played in first person, but not only shooters are in this category of gaming. Any game you play through a characters point of view is fit for this one.
real time strategy (RTS)

This definition is used for strategy games that are not turn based, you have to make quick and strategic decisions while the game goes on.
massively multiplayer online (MMO)

MMOs are games essentially played with others around the globe. They can have variations that define the type of game it is like MMORPGs or MMOFPS and more.
third person shooter (TPS)

Like FPSs they are shooter games or not but in this case played in the third person perpective, were you see your character o screen instead of seeing the worlf through his/her/its eyes.
