Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

vaccination

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Infection with an antigen to elicit an antibody response that will protect the organism against future infections.

genetic information

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Information contained in a nucleotide base sequence in chromosomal DNA or RNA.

maternal inheritance

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Inheritance controlled by extrachromosomal (cytoplasmic) factors that are transmitted through the egg.

quantitative inheritance

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Inheritance of measurable traits (height, weight, colour intensity, etc.) that depend on the cumulative action of many genes.

negative autogenous regulation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Inhibition of the expression of a gene or set of coordinately regulated genes by the product of the gene or the product of one of the genes.

negative self-regulation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Inhibition of the expression of a gene or set of coordinately regulated genes by the product of the gene or the product of one of the genes.

repression

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

Inhibition of transcription by preventing RNA polymerase from binding to the transcription initiation site: a repressed gene is "turned off."
