Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

antibody-mediated (humoral) immune response

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of antibodies by B cells in response to an encounter of the cells of the immune system with a foreign immunogen.

T-cell-mediated (cellular) immune response

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of antigen-specific T cell receptors and the development of killer T cells in response to an encounter of immune system cells with a foreign immunogen.

reverse transcription

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of DNA on a template of RNA, accomplished by reverse transcriptase.

replication

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of duplex (double-stranded) DNA by copying from a single-stranded template.

in vitro translation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of proteins in the test-tube from purified mRNA molecules using cell extracts containing ribosomal sub-units, the necessary protein factors, tRNA molecules and aminoacyl tRNA ...

cell-free translation

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The synthesis of proteins in the test-tube from purified mRNA molecules using cell extracts containing ribosomal sub-units, the necessary protein factors, tRNA molecules and aminoacyl tRNA ...

symplast

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

The system of protoplasts in plants, that are interconnected by plasmodesmata.
