Material physics

Material physics is the use of physics to describe materials in many different ways. It covers a number of related fields such as chemistry, solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, condensed matter, solid state physics, nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, quantum optics, plasma physics, and thermodynamics.

Contributors in Material physics

Material physics

superposition principle

Materials science; Material physics

States that the most general solution to a linear differential equation is a superposition of all possible solutions.

Ehrenfest's theorem

Materials science; Material physics

States that the quantum mechanical expectation values follow classical equations of motion, the Ehrenfest equations.

Bose-Einstein statistics

Materials science; Material physics

Statistical treatment of an assembled collection of bosons. The distinction between particles whose wave functions are symmetric or antisymmetric leads to different behavior under a collection of ...

Gaussian statistics

Materials science; Material physics

Statistics of random variables which can be described by Gaussian random processes. See Gaussian random processes.

mirror ratio

Materials science; Material physics

Ratio of maximum to minimum magnetic field strength along a field line in a magnetically confined plasma.

beta value

Materials science; Material physics

Ratio of plasma kinetic pressure to magnetic field pressure. Beta is usually measured relative to the total local magnetic field, but in some cases it can be measured relative to components of the ...

Q-factor

Materials science; Material physics

Ratio of power produced by fusion to the power used to heat the plasma in a fusion reactor.
