In the atmosphere, the rate at which pressure changes across space. Higher rates of change will create faster winds.

interlocking spurs

The landform resulting from the winding path of a river in its upper course cutting a v-shaped valley. The slopes on the inside of each bend jut out giving an interlocking appearance.
