When a player can ask that play stop. Each player is allowed three time outs per game and two time outs in a tiebreaker. The length of a time out can vary but they usually last 30 to 60 seconds.

When a player is able to put forward rotation on the ball. This rotation causes the ball to travel downward and to also pick up speed after it bounces on the floor.
