Solar power

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Contributors in Solar power

Solar power

voltage regulation

Energy; Solar power

This indicates the variability in the output voltage. Some loads will not tolerate voltage variations greater than a few percent.

gaas

Energy; Solar power

See gallium arsenide.

wafer

Energy; Solar power

A thin sheet of semiconductor (photovoltaic material) made by cutting it from a single crystal or ingot.

gallium (GA)

Energy; Solar power

A chemical element, metallic in nature, used in making certain kinds of solar cells and semiconductor devices.

watt

Energy; Solar power

The rate of energy transfer equivalent to one ampere under an electrical pressure of one volt. One watt equals 1/746 horsepower, or one joule per second. It is the product of voltage and current ...

gallium arsenide (GAAS)

Energy; Solar power

A crystalline, high-efficiency compound used to make certain types of solar cells and semiconductor material.

waveform

Energy; Solar power

The shape of the phase power at a certain frequency and amplitude.
