Bohemian Glass Art and the Art Nouveau Movement

Bohemian Glass and the Art Nouveau Philosophical Art Movement were naturally connected. Early innovators like Alphonse Mucha established the direction and heavily influenced both art and art glass. With enthusiasm, decadence and a 'dance the Charleston til sunrise' mindset, this was an age of overindulgence right before the Great Depression.

Individuals would dance on game tables and quaff bubbly and the hand made glass art soaked up this slightly degenerate look with gold leaf and iridescent flowery glass art.

Architects and artists alike, welcomed the new style and ran with it. Gaudi, Gustav Klimt, and glass art designers Louis Comfort Tiffany and René Lalique all motivated and were in turn influenced by the Art Nouveau initiative.

Bohemian Glass was no exception. The Bohemian Glass vases that were made at the turn of the 1900s were seriously motivated by the trend.

The look was definitely wholesome and naturalistic and styles of blooms are ever existent. This earthy fashion was overlaid with a beaded colourful style which helped set it solidly apart from the simple function of the arts and crafts drive.

Bohemian vases at that time were imbued with the look. These items of Bohemian Glass Art are easy to recognize as they fit into a well-known pattern. The Bohemia Glass Art is curvy and is adorned with leaves and flowers and often includes an iridescent finish.

Some of the personalized items of Bohemian Crystal were alike with lifelike motifs of leaves and blooms but in addition with a gold leaf rim or foot to link the two key parts of the Art Nouveau fashion.

It was as if the charm of the flora was not sufficient to gratify and the art had to have an overlay of gold and jewels that Shah Jahan would have been happy with.

The Bohemian Art Nouveau Glass Art initiative was centred around glass makers like Loetz, Kralik, Moser and Pallme-König. Their Bohemian Glass Art making around the time fits into the typical Art Nouveau fashion. The Bohemian Glass Art flower vases were oily iridescent and naturally styled. The brim of Bohemian vases were curled like falling leaves and the layouts were holistic and asymmetric.

The glass art of the time period had a comfortable look to it and colours of mist white, green and oily bluish purple were mixed with various other colours or combed in a dreamy way that summarized the laissez-faire attitude of the time.

With the dawn in 1929 of the Depression almost everything become different. Out went the degeneracy and shimmering charm of the Art Nouveau and in came the mechanical worship of the Art Deco initiative with straight lines and a significantly more ordered style presentation.

Bohemian Glass Art and the Bohemian glass art vases were now more correctly termed Czech Glass Art and the World progressed to the age of the machine and Art Deco took the mantel where Art Nouveau had departed.
