Chicago

The largest city in the state of Illinois, United States. It is the county seat of Cook County, the second most populous county in the country.

Chicago was incorporated as a town in 1833. Its location near a portage made the city an important hub for transportation between the eastern and western United States. In the 19th century, the city experienced some of the fastest population growth in the world.

Today, Chicago is known for its status as a hub for industry, telecommunications and infrastructure. According to 2010 estimates, the city has the 3rd largest gross metropolitan product in the United States.

Over 2.7 million people reside in Chicago, making it one of the most populous cities in the Midwestern United States. More than half the population of the state of Illinois resides in Chicago’s metropolitan area.

As a waterfront city, Chicago attracts many residents and tourists. It is also know for its nightlife. The city is home to many upscale restaurants, ethnic food establishments, and is the birthplace of the renowned deep-dish pizza. Leisure travel, combined with business travel, has made significant contributions to the local economy.
