Guam is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States located in the western Pacific Ocean. It is one of five U.S. territories with an established civilian government. The island's capital is Hagåtña (formerly Agaña). Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands.

The island was first populated 4,000 years ago, but was appropriated by Spain in the 1500s and remained under Spanish rule until 1898, when it was surrendered to the Americans. In World War 2 it was invaded by the Japanese and the inhabitants were forced to adopt Japanese culture. It took the Americans just under three years to recapture the territory.

The island currently houses just under 200,000 inhabitants, although the US wishes to increase its military presence there and move another 80,000 people over in 4 years time. They will invest in the aging infrastructure to support this large increase.

Guam's economy is propped up heavily by tourism, proving a popular destination for the Japanese due to their relative proximity.

The country has a problem with wildfires, the majority of which are caused by arsonists who wish to attract deer to the newly growing grasslands. There have also been problems with non-indigenous species being brought to the island and disrupting the delicate ecosystem.
