In the Heat of the Night

In the Heat of the Night is a 1967 Academy Award winning film directed by Norman Jewison and starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. It tells the story of a murder in a Mississippi town and the relationship of two homicide detectives who are hired to solve it. It went on to spawn a TV show of the same name.

The film was a critical and commercial success. Costing 2 million USD to create, it won five academy awards and made 27 million in ticket sales. It was praised for its handling of racial issues at a time when the civil rights movement was gaining momentum.
