Kodak
Founded in 1880 by a high school dropout named George Eastman from upstate New York, Kodak is a multinational imaging and photographic equipment company headquartered in Rochester, New York. The company invented the hand-held camera that helped produce the world's first pictures from the moon.
Kodak is best known for its wide range of photographic film products. During most of the 20th century Kodak enjoyed a dominant position in photographic film sales, commanding a 90% market share worldwide at its peak.
Since the late 1990s, Kodak has struggled financially as a result of the digital revolution which caused a steady decline in sales of photographic paper and film.
On January 19th, 2012, Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
