Marco Pierre White

Born in Leeds, England, 11 December 1961, Marco is a celebrity chef and restaurateur. His mother is Italian who went to England in her early youth to learn English where she met Marco father, Frank white, who was a chef.

After leaving Allerton High School in Leeds without any qualifications, White decided to train as a chef.

He began his training in the kitchen at the Hotel St George in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and later at the Box Tree in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Arriving in London as a 16-year-old with "£7.36, a box of books and a bag of clothes" he began his classical training as a commis under Albert Roux and Michel Roux at Le Gavroche, a period that would lead Albert to describe him as "my little bunny".

At 24, Marco became Head Chef and joint owner of Harveys with a kitchen staff that included the young Gordon Ramsay.

During these years White had working for him Gordon Ramsay, Eric Chavot (The Capital), Heston Blumenthal (The Fat Duck), Bryn Williams (Odette's), Matt Tebbutt (The Foxhunter), Robert Reid, Thierry Busset, Jason Atherton, James Stocks and in front of house Max (Mark) Palmer, one of the few English Maître d' of a Michelin 3-star, Claude Douart, Philippe Messy (youngest sommelier to gain 3 Michelin stars) and Chris Jones, unusual in being an English sommelier in a 2-star Michelin French restaurant at the age of 21.

He has made a biggest contribution to contemporary International cuisine and regarded as the Godfather of modern cuisine. Dubbed as the first celebrity chef, he was the enfant f the UK restaurant scene. White was the youngest to have received the 3 Michelin stars at an age of 33. In 1987, he opened Harvey's in Wandsworth Common in London, where he got his first Michelin star and was awarded his second Michelin star right after, in the year 1988. After becoming the chef-patron of the restaurant at the former Hyde Park Hotel, White received his third Michelin star. White has trained the famous Gordon Ramsay and Curtis Stone and is known best for his temperament. Working for 17 years as a chef, he returned his Michelin stars for he realized that his career didn't provide him enough in his personal life. He was a judge in the famous culinary competitive show, "The MasterChef Australia: Professionals".
