Thyroid Cancer

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck, just above the trachea. It produces hormones that help the body to function normally. Anyone can have a cancer in the thyroid gland.

However, some factors may increase the risk. Among them:

Age between 25 and 65 years

female

Asian

Having a family history of thyroid disease

Have received radiation therapy to the head or neck

You should consult a doctor if you notice a lump or swelling in the neck. The doctor may tell you that an analysis is made to determine if you have cancer, and if so, the type. Treatment depends on the type and spread of cancer. Includes surgery, radioactive iodine, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Some patients receive a combination of these treatments.
