Tomatina
La Tomatina is a festival that is held in the Spanish town of Buñol on the last Wednesday of August every year. There are many theories about how La Tomatina started but no one can be sure which theory is correct, though people generally agree that the tradition started in 1945. The festival is basically a tomato based food fight in which participants throw tomatoes at each other purely for fun. La Tomatina starts at around 11 am and ends after exactly one hour after which the whole town is colored. Around 150,000 tomatoes are used every year. These tomatoes are grown especially for this occasion as they are of inferior quality and less expensive.
