There are two marked out square boxes that are in foul territory next to first and third base. One coach will be stand in each of these boxes when their team is batting and they will tell a base runner if the should run or continue running or not. This is important for the thrid base coach to do because the player running from second to thrid base will, most of the time, not be able to see where the ball is, so they need to know if they should stop at thrid or continue to home plate. The first base coach will also give hand signals to the batter on whether or not they should swing at a pitch, bunt and other piece of advise, which the batter had better follow.
