vertical lines
Vertical lines are lines which can suggest dominance, power and growth. Some excellent examples include tall structural designs and trees. Vertical lines should be kept parallel with the sides of a photograph as much as possible. Vertical lines obviously cannot begin at the corner of an image, as previously suggested. Therefore, the alternative is to keep the Rule of Thirds in mind. This will help prevent an image from looking like it’s been cut in half. Vertical lines are associated with strength. Skyscrapers, for example, stand erect in a vertical line and represent height, strength, dignity, formality, and sturdiness. A person who stands with good posture represents those same characteristics; on the other hand, a person who slouches conveys a message of laziness, weakness, or informality.
