window-washing robot

A cleaning device that uses suction to hold itself onto a window's glass surface and glides horizontally to clean the window. When it bumps into the window's frame, the robot turns itself around and edges up the window to eventually go back in the opposite direction, systematically cleaning in a series of horizontal lines. The higher end models also work on frameless surfaces like mirrors.

The window-washing robot is powered by an electrical cord. There is also an internal battery that is only there in case the power goes out – so it won’t lose suction while an alarm alerts the operator to the power outage. The device comes with a cleaning pad on the front, a squeegee in the center, and a drying pad on the back.

In addition to helping homeowners clean hard-to-reach windows around the house, enhanced versions of the window-washing robots hold much promise for cleaning windows on exterior walls on large buildings (such as a skyscraper), an expensive job that has traditionally been done by spider men.
