Council de Manos

A non-profit organization in the United States for the Latinx Deaf community, which traces its roots back to 1991, when it was known as the National Hispanic Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. After a few years of inactivity, it was re-established in 2005 as the National Council of Hispano Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In 2015, the organization officially changed its name to Council de Manos.

In American Sign Language, Council de Manos is often referred to by signing the handshape for "C" followed by the handshape "5", which also represents the hands (in Spanish, "manos"). In writing, therefore, the abbreviation for Council de Manos is "C5".
