hoverboard

As originally predicted by the 1989 film "Back to the Future Part II" that levitating "skyway flyers" would be a reality in 2015, the hoverboard is a skateboard that allows riders to float in air. However, instead of being developed by the Wilson Hover Conversion Systems advertised in the film, the California based Hendo Hover introduced the world's first concept hoverboard using a technology called Pax Magnetic Field Architecture. The technology uses the repelling force of magnets to lift the board and then controls its movement by transmitting electromagnetic energy more efficiently without a track, or supercooling, or superconductors.

The Hendo hoverboard is primarily intended to be human-driven, although the technology that gives it stability can also be used to drive it via remote control by altering the projected force on the surface underneath it. The current system consists of a primary magnetic field and a second magnet field with non-ferrous materials as its surface. There are four hover engines on the bottom of the board to create the magnetic field in the surface so riders can float an inch above it in all directions. Hendo is working to optimize the system so the hoverboard can eventually hover on other surfaces.
