Un termostato mantiene la temperatura de un sistema en o cerca de un nivel estipulado el uso de sensores que le indican cuándo desconectar los aparatos de calefacción. En la mayoría de los sistemas de calefacción doméstica central, un termostato de pared se utiliza para establecer una temperatura máxima de la casa, mientras que las válvulas termostáticas de radiador se puede utilizar para establecer el nivel deseado para radiadores individuales.
