Genetic engineering
viroid A
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
An infectious entity similar to a virus but smaller, consisting only of a strand of nucleic acid without the protein coat characteristic of a virus.
Green Revolution
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Name given by William Goud to the dramatic increase in crop productivity during the third quarter of the 20th century, as result of integrated advances in genetics and plant breeding, agronomy, and ...
free-living conditions
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Natural or greenhouse conditions where the plantlets are transferred from in vitro conditions to soil mixtures. In such instances, plantlets must manufacture their own food supply for survival.
toxicity
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Negative effect of a compound, as shown by altered morphology or physiology. It is meaningful only when the effect itself is also described, such as changes in the rate of cell growth, cell death, ...
liquid nitrogen
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Nitrogen gas condensed to a liquid with a boiling point of about -196°C. Very commonly the medium in which containers of genetic material are stored.
spharoblast
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Nodule of wood which can give rise to adventitious shoots with juvenile characteristics.
epigenetic variation
Biotechnology; Genetic engineering
Non-hereditary and reversible variation; often the result of a change in gene expression.
