Genetic engineering

The science of modifying and manipulating genes to create new artificial DNA or synthetic genes of different organisms. There are many purposes for genetic engineering, some of which include finding better treatment for diseases, or simply for discovering new organism of interest.

Contributors in Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering

receptor-binding screening

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the biotechnology-based methods for discovering conventional drugs. The method relies on the fact that many drugs act by binding to specific proteins (receptors) on or in cells: these proteins ...

pBR322

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the first plasmid vectors widely used; especially used for cloning DNA in E. coli .

spermatid

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the four cells formed by the meiotic divisions in spermatogenesis. Spermatids become mature spermatozoa (sperm).

integument

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the layers that enclosed the ovule, and is the precursor of the seed coat.

petal

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the parts of the flower that make up the corolla.

endosperm mother cell

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the seven cells of the mature embryo sac, containing the two polar nuclei and, after reception of a sperm cell, gives rise to the primary endosperm cell from which the endosperm develops.

ascospore

Biotechnology; Genetic engineering

One of the spores contained in the ascus (q.v.) of certain fungi .
