Human genome
The human genome consists of 23 chromosome and the small mitochondrial DNA. 22 of the 23 chromosomes are autosomal chromosome pairs and the last one being a gender-determining pair. In total, the human genome contains the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA and approximately 20,000-25,000 genes. By understanding human genome, scientists are able to develop new medical applications that can significantly advance the state of health care.

albinism
Medical; Human genome
1) General term for a number of inherited defects of amino acid metabolism in which there is a deficiency or absence of pigment in the eyes, skin, or hair. 2) A genetic condition marked by little ...
antisense strand
Medical; Human genome
1) Antisense is the non-coding DNA strand of a gene. A cell uses antisense DNA strand as a template for producing messenger RNA (mRNA) that directs the synthesis of a protein. Antisense can also ...
adaptation

adrenal glands
Medical; Human genome
1) Paired glands situated in the retroperitoneal tissues at the superior pole of each kidney. 2) A pair of small glands, one located on top of each kidney. They produce steroid hormones, ...
conserved sequence
Medical; Human genome
