Material physics

Material physics is the use of physics to describe materials in many different ways. It covers a number of related fields such as chemistry, solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, condensed matter, solid state physics, nuclear physics, quantum mechanics, quantum optics, plasma physics, and thermodynamics.

Contributors in Material physics

Material physics

Pitot tube

Materials science; Material physics

Slender tube aligned with the flow that measures the stagnation pressure of the fluid through a hole in the front where the fluid stream is decelerated to zero velocity.

lifting of degeneracy

Materials science; Material physics

Slight inequality of energy of a group of quantum states due to the presence of a perturbation, usually weak, that destroys or lowers the symmetry of the underlying system.

removal of degeneracy

Materials science; Material physics

Slight inequality of energy of a group of quantum states due to the presence of a perturbation, usually weak, that destroys or lowers the symmetry of the underlying system.

magnetic probe

Materials science; Material physics

Small insulated coil of wire used to measure local changes in magnetic flux and, consequently, to measure local magnetic field strength and direction.

liquid crystals

Materials science; Material physics

Some organic crystals, when heated, go through one or more phases before they melt into the pure liquid phase. These intermediate phases, known as mesophases or mesomorphic phases are called liquid ...

Trace

Materials science; Material physics

Sometimes known as "spur". The result of adding the matrix elements along the diagonal.

sonic boom

Materials science; Material physics

Sound wave created by the confluence of waves across a shock.
