Natural gas

Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with up to 20 % of other hydrocarbons as well as impurities in varying amounts such as carbon dioxide. Natural gas is widely used as an important energy source in many applications including heating buildings, generating electricity, providing heat and power to industry, as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of products such as plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals.

Contributors in Natural gas

Natural gas

wedge gate

Energy; Natural gas

The gate of a valve that is wedge-shaped in cross-section for used with body seating surfaces taht are inclined to the stem centerline; solid, flex, and split designs are available.

weir diaphragm valve

Energy; Natural gas

A diaphragm valve featuring a dam, or weir, formed in the body across the fluid flow path. This design reduces diaphragm flexing, but increases flwo resistance.

working pressure

Energy; Natural gas

The pressure of the fluid passing through a valve measured at the valve inlet; fluid pressure varies as it passes through the valve and is lower at the valve outlet.

worm gear operator

Energy; Natural gas

A gear operator taht uses a worm gear set.

worm gears

Energy; Natural gas

A gear set in which the input shaft is offset from and perpendicular to the output shaft, and driving gear is very small and perpendicular to the driven gear. Worm gear operators are used on ball ...

yield strength

Energy; Natural gas

The limiting stress beyond which a material will sustain permanent deformation.

yoke

Energy; Natural gas

An extension of a valve bonnet shaped like an inverted "Y"; the top of the yoke holds a yoke nut and the valve stem passes through it.
