Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Contributors in Plastic injection molding

Plastic injection molding

UL temperature index

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The maximum temperature below which a material maintains its electrical and mechanical integrity over a reasonable period.

tensile strength

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The maximum tensile stress sustained by the specimen during a tension test

tonnage

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The measure by which injection molding machines are typically categorized, representing the clamping force of the injection molding machine.

yield flexural strength

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The measure of resistance of the material to fracture during bending.

deflection temperature

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The measurement of temperature at which a specimen deflects to a set point under a defined load.

injection molding

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The method of forming objects from granular or powdered plastics, most often of the thermoplastic type, in which the materials is fed from a hopper to a heated chamber in which it is softened, after ...

minimum specifications

Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding

The minimum values, usually of mechanical properties, that a compound must meet by Quality Assurance prior to shipment.
