Plastic injection molding
Plastic injection molding is the primary process for manufacturing plastic parts used in consumer goods such as computer keyboards, monitors, bottle caps, cups and solid plastic articles. Plastic is known to be a very versatile and economical material that is used in many applications. Injection molding involves taking plastic in the form of pellets or granules and heating this material until a melt is obtained. Then the melt is forced into a split-die chamber/mold where it is allowed to "cool" into the desired shape. The mold is then opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated.

Plastic injection molding
retainer plate
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The plate on which demountable pieces, such as mold cavities, ejector pins, guide pins and bushings are mounted during molding.
moving platen
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The platen of an injection molding machine that is moved by a hydraulic ram or mechanical toggle.
sprue lock
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The portion of resin retained in the cold-slug well by an undercut. This lock is used to pull the sprue out of the bushing as the mold opens. The sprue lock itself is pushed out of the mold by an ...
injection molding pressure
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The pressure applied to the cross-sectional area of the molding cylinder.
clamping pressure
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The pressure applied to the mold to keep it closed during the molding cycle.
mold temperature
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
the temperature at which the mold is maintained. Often the most important benefit of raising mold temperature is that it allows a slower injection rate without the plastic getting too cold.
ambient temperature
Manufacturing; Plastic injection molding
The temperature of a medium surrounding an object. The term is often used to denote prevailing room temperature.
